Description

The campaign for women’s voting rights really began before the Civil War. During the 1820’s and 30’s, most states had expanded voting rights to all white men. It was no longer based on property or wealth. It was at this time that many reform groups started popping up all over the United States and many of those groups were formed by women. But they did not have a voice when it came time to vote.I was looking for more information and found it here. It was in 1848 that the first meeting about women’s rights took place in New York. Most of those gathered were able to agree that women had just as much right to voice their political opinions as any man. By the end of the Civil War things got frustrating for them. The recently freed slaves were given voting rights but still not women.
